When it comes to brands, two of the biggest piqued our curiosity in 2012 – Apple and Red Bull.
So says Google, with their annual review of search terms over the last year as posted in their Google Zeitgeist wrap.
Over 1.2 trillion searches were made using Google’s search engine across 146 languages states the official Google Zeitgeist page, but be aware – the results of the trending searches are correlated only from google.com in English, and as such the Zeitgeist data has a very US-centric view.
“Zeitgeist means the spirit of the times,” says Google, “and this spirit can be seen through the aggregation of billions of search queries Google receives every day. The annual Zeitgeist report reveals what captured the world’s attention in the past year—our passions, interests and defining moments as seen through search.”
Apple’s ipad 3 and iphone 5 both featured heavily in search results, as did Red Bull’s sponsorship of Felix Baumgartner’s record breaking space jump.
Other consumer electronics brands that did particularly well included Samsung, PlayStation and Nokia.
